Thursday, April 01, 2010

Andrew Cave, Head of Sustainability at RBS, was announced as the new chair of the UK Network of the UN Global Compact at the March UK Network Quarterly Meeting.

Andrew was elected following a meeting of the UK Network's Steering Committee in London, and replaces Michael Spenley who has held the position since 2007. Andrew has been actively engaged in the work of the UK Network activities for a number of years.

"I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to Chair one of the most active networks in the Global Compact movement. The Global Compact is the world’s leading responsible business initiative, and the ten principles set out in the Compact provide a very useful and accessible framework for companies of any size who want to do the right thing," said Andrew. “The UK Network exists to provide advice and information to signatory companies, and to share best practice between members and civil society partner organisations.”

Andrew has been Head of Sustainability at the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, the UK headquartered financial services organisation, for several years. He has an Msc in International Development and a Diploma in Sustainable Business. In addition to his Global Compact role he is also involved with the Steering Committee of the Equator Principles, the financial services industry’s benchmark for social and environmental standards in project finance.
