Maplecroft collaborating with the Global Compact on a major human rights research project
Monday, March 09, 2009
Maplecroft are seeking contributions on issues around human rights in emerging markets for a project begun on the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (10th December 2008). The project aims to enhance the understanding of human rights dilemmas for responsible business, and contribute to thought leadership and best practice in this area.
The project investigates a set of well-researched human rights dilemmas across four main areas: human security, civil and political rights, labour rights, and other economic and social rights. For each area there will be an investigation into the actions of business through case studies and exploration of the viewpoints of different stakeholder groups using an online solutions forum.
Going forward from the contribution stage, there will be development of ideas for a cohesive, rights-focused approach to the four areas and a report collecting together the valuable information from all the project's key stages.
Contributions to the project will be welcome until December 2009. Interim results of all work will be presented at UN Global Compact and other public events during 2009/10. The final report, due by December 2010, will be available in the public domain via the GE Foundation, the UN Global Compact and Maplecroft.
